Two people are facing a combined 44 charges following a vehicle theft and flight from police on Red Pheasant Cree Nation.
On Oct. 15, around 11:30 a.m., Battlefords RCMP received a report that individuals armed with firearms had entered a residence on Red Pheasant Cree Nation. No injuries were reported, and officers began patrolling the area.
RCMP located the suspects travelling on a nearby rural road and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to stop and fled from police.
The suspects continued driving before officers eventually stopped the vehicle on Mosquito Grizzly Bear’s Head Lean Man First Nation. Both individuals were arrested without incident.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of two firearms. Officers also seized a small amount of suspected cocaine, 34 MDMA pills and several pharmaceutical-style pills while searching the arrested individuals.
Following an investigation, 22-year-old Trevor Auger of Edmonton and 29-year-old Riley Baptiste of Mosquito Grizzly Bear’s Head Lean Man First Nation were each charged with unsafe storage of a firearm, multiple firearm possession offences, failing to comply with a release order condition and resisting or obstructing a peace officer.
Auger faces additional charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operating a conveyance while impaired, flight from a peace officer, possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime valued at more than $5,000.
Auger and Baptiste appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on Oct. 16.
