Onion Lake RCMP have charged two men with fraud over $5,000 following an investigation into alleged misappropriation of funds intended for Onion Lake Cree Nation.
On March 11, Saskatchewan RCMP received a report of the alleged misappropriation. The RCMP’s Central District General Investigation Section launched an investigation alongside the Onion Lake RCMP detachment.
The investigation determined that, over a four-year period, two men requested and received payments from landholders on Onion Lake Cree Nation unlawfully.
As a result, 67-year-old Tommy Whitstone and 54-year-old Richard Stanley, both from Onion Lake, have each been charged with one count of fraud over $5,000.
The RCMP said it does not typically release the names of victims of crime. However, it is releasing the information in this case to help prevent further victimization and encourage anyone who believes they may have had suspicious or fraudulent dealings with either man to contact police.
Information can also be submitted anonymously through Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.
