Good things come to those who bait and this time, they don’t even need to pay for a licence.
Saskatchewan’s Free Fishing Weekend is back July 12 and 13. The Ministry of Environment said in a release issued Wednesday that anyone can fish on public waters open to sportfishing during the two-day event.
“Saskatchewan is renowned for its world-class sportfishing, and we encourage everyone to enjoy a truly remarkable experience,” Environment Minister Travis Keisig stated.
“Free Fishing Weekend is the ideal time to discover the province’s incredible fishing opportunities and enjoy the outdoors.”
People don’t need a licence to fish, but regular rules – like catch and possession limits — still apply. A valid licence is still needed to transport fish out of the province, and the freebie doesn’t cover national parks.
The event, now in its 36th year, was launched in 1988 to promote the province’s diverse angling options. A winter version was added in 2015.
More information, including the latest regulations, is available in the province’s Anglers Guide or online at saskatchewan.ca/fishing.
