Golfers at Meota and District Lakeside Golf Course can look forward to a new $2-million clubhouse next season, with plans to create a space that serves both the golf course and the wider community.
Heath Gabruch, a golf course member and volunteer, said the current clubhouse was built more than 30 years ago using three construction trailers joined together.
In 2000, volunteers completed an extensive redesign to accommodate more patrons. Over the years, the tournament room was also doubled in size and a deck was added. However, the aging building has reached a point where it needs to be replaced.

“So, the board of the golf course, along with some volunteers, put together a fundraising committee to start raising funds to construct a new clubhouse for the Meota Golf Course,” Gabruch said.
He noted that as the Village of Meota has grown, the golf course has become an important part of the community, thanks to the volunteers who have supported it over the years.

“The idea of a commercial kitchen will be one of the things that this new build will have and an area for larger events, whether it’s a ladies night or a men’s night, but also for other gatherings that people in the community can use this facility for. There will also be a pro shop and a huge deck,” Gabruch said.

Funding for the project will come through a combination of grants, fundraising efforts and community donations. There will also be opportunities for donors to contribute through naming rights for the clubhouse and individual features of the building, including the deck and kitchen.

“So far, the community as a whole, whether it’s the RM or the village of Meota, has all been very positive and supportive of seeing the golf course take this to the next level, knowing that it’s going to be around for many, many years to come.”
An open house will take place Nov. 21 from noon to 5:00 p.m. at the Meota Curling Club, where community members can learn more about the proposed project and its fundraising efforts.
