At 4:05 p.m. Environment Canada updated their alert to a severe thunderstorm watch.
“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. Severe thunderstorms are developing ahead of a low pressure system tracking into Saskatchewan this afternoon,” the alert said.
The storms are expected to move northeast and out of the area by the evening. The agency warned of possible heavy rain, strong wind gusts, large hail and frequent lightning, and urged residents to continue monitoring forecasts and alerts as conditions change.

Environment Canada has issued an emergency tornado alert for the Battlefords and Unity region as a storm moves east across west-central Saskatchewan.
Funnel clouds have been reported west of the Battlefords, and the storm is tracking toward the area. Residents are urged to take immediate shelter if threatening weather approaches.
The alert advises moving to a basement or, if one is not available, to a small interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, away from windows and exterior walls. People caught outside should protect themselves from flying debris and seek the nearest substantial shelter.
Environment Canada is warning that conditions can change rapidly and is urging residents to monitor weather alerts and be prepared to act immediately if a tornado is sighted or a tornado warning is issued.
